Becks

As most people are aware the German’s know how to make a good beer and this is one of them.

becks.bmp

First brewed in 1873 in the small German city of Bremen and then officially launched in 1874. Becks beer was winning prizes and medals from a very early age. From its beginnings to this current day Becks has been brewed to the German Purity Law of 1516 – one of the oldest food regulations in the world. Unfortunately, the beer itself no longer comes from Germany and is now brewed and bottled here in Australia, but rest assured the same ingredients used in the German counterpart are used here. Becks beer tastes exceptionally crisp and dry making it an ideal drink for beer drinkers and non beer drinkers alike. There’s not much of a scent to Becks and the colour of the beer is light yellow. The beer comes in a green pop cap bottle with the traditional silver foil top label.

In continuing fashion from my last review I will show you one of my favourite Becks television advertisements:

To give you an idea of just how popular this beer is, the makers claim that over 50 Becks are consumed every minute, plus Becks are now sold in over 120 different countries worldwide. So next time you’re in the market for a German alternative might I suggest you try Becks, you won’t regret it – I didn’t!

Heineken

Heineken Bottle

Internationally renowned, this classic beer was conceived in Amsterdam back in 1863 by a young lad by the name of Gerard Adriaan Heineken.

Heineken is a premium lager that is delivered in the unmistakable green bottle with a red star on it. It has an exceptionally smooth taste and is very easy to drink probably due to the fact there are no lingering before or after tastes. The smell of Heineken is subtle with a pleasant sweet-smelling aroma. Its appearance is a light shade of yellow and let me tell you it is very easy to poor straight out of the bottle, which is a bonus if you are trying to impress.

‘The Haystack’ an old brewery in Denmark was the birthplace of Heineken. It was purchased by Gerard back in 1863 due to the fact the Dutch brewing industry was in serious decline, this meant he was able to purchase the brewery at a very affordable price which is amazing considering he was only 22 at the time – I myself am in envy of this fact! Since then the business has grown immensely among the international markets and is now known globally as the Heineken group. The Heineken group now sells more than 170 international beers, which is utterly amazing. They also have some very amusing advertising commercials, one can be seen below.

Heineken are currently having some really appealing promotions, such as winning tickets to the rugby world cup 2007 final in Paris. All you have to do is buy a 6-pack to enter and you could be off, I have mine in front of me. They also have a 5Litre draught keg which is available for purchase and from previous experience they are fantastic, especially for a long weekend away or a party – just remember to keep it chilled and drink the keg as soon as possible after opening it to preserve freshness.

So if you’re after a smooth drinking beer or just a chance to go to the rugby world cup final, I suggest you go down to your local bottle shop and pick yourself up a 6-pack of Heineken.
